Ready to love Lucille, Butters or Genesis? They're waiting at local shelters

By Abby Kirkland / For the Post-Gazette

Shelter Soulmates is a bi-weekly column spotlighting adoptable pets from Pittsburgh area shelters and 501(c)(3) rescues. All animals were available at the time of listing.

Lucille

Lucille is a 5-year-old, mixed-breed dog who came to Animal Friends in 2020 as a transfer from a partner organization.

This 65-pound sweetheart was adopted into a loving home but returned to the shelter in 2022 through no fault of her own.

She is affectionate and sociable and loves walks and car rides. She gets excited when she sees her favorite people and looks forward to snuggling with them.

As much as she loves her people, Lucille gets stressed with too many of them around and should be in an adult-only home with no other pets.

She is one of Aurora's Special Canines, a fund established in honor of a spunky little dog named Aurora for dogs who are struggling to find a suitable home due to their age or unique medical or behavior needs. This means that her adoption fee has been underwritten and her new family will receive a starter kit of supplies and other support based on her unique needs.

Lucille is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. If you might love Lucy, find out more at ThinkingOutsideTheCage.org.

Butters

Butters is a 6-year-old calico cat who was surrendered to Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh in May when her owner could no longer care for her.

She’s a shy girl who took some time to adjust to living in a shelter, but don’t be fooled by first impressions. Beneath that cautious exterior is a sweet and affectionate girl just waiting for the right person to help her blossom.

Butters would thrive in a quiet home with plenty of cozy spots where she can settle in at her own pace. HARP's medical team is happy to discuss all of her medical needs to ensure her new family is fully prepared to provide the care she deserves.

If you’re seeking a laid-back, loving companion, Butters might be the one for you. She is waiting at the North Side shelter for a calm forever home.

Genesis

Genesis is a 3-month-old Great Dane who already weighs 21 pounds and is living at the Washington Area Humane Society.

He is a sweet and affectionate puppy who loves to push his boundaries. He has so much to learn and will make someone a wonderful companion.

Adopters should have Great Dane experience and a commitment to working with and training a puppy. They also should have adequate space to house and exercise this big boy!
