The Steelers appear to still be seeking help for George Pickens in their wide receiver room, as they have inquired with the Las Vegas Raiders regarding the availability of Davante Adams, sources told the Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac.
But many questions still need to be answered before a potential deal can take place, the biggest being: Does Adams want to play for Pittsburgh, and would he be willing to restructure the massive five-year, $140 million contract he signed with the Raiders in March 2022?
Adams is rumored to prefer either the New York Jets or New Orleans Saints as a potential destination to reconnect with his former quarterbacks. Adams played eight seasons in Green Bay with Aaron Rodgers, racking up 669 catches for 8,121 yards and 73 touchdowns with the current Jets quarterback. Adams also had a stellar 2022 season in Las Vegas with current Saints signal caller Carr — 100 catches for 1,516 yards and 14 scores.
The Steelers, meanwhile, could use a lot of help in the wideout department behind Pickens, who has reeled in 20 passes for 284 yards so far this season. However, all other Pittsburgh receivers have combined for 14 grabs and 192 yards in four total games and have only found the end zone once. Rookie third-round pick Roman Wilson has been inactive for every game this season, including Sunday night’s prime-time tilt against the Cowboys.
The Steelers’ pursuit of San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk sparked media speculation throughout the offseason and fan consternation at its conclusion. How the Adams saga pans out remains to be seen.
