High school soccer highlights: Franklin Regional wins key Section 3 showdown against Allderdice

In a boys soccer battle of two of the top Class 3A teams, No. 4 ranked Franklin Regional (5-2, 4-1) recorded a 2-0 upset of No. 2 ranked Allderdice (5-2-1, 3-1-1) in a Section 3 showdown played at Franklin Regional.

Cruise Lamanna scored the first goal on an assist from Mitchell Murray. Danny Christafano added a second goal for the Panthers on an assist from Fabrizzio Costa.

Other boys matches

• Leo Yu scored seven minutes into the second half to provide the only goal as 4A No. 5 North Allegheny (7-2-1, 4-1) posted a huge Section 3 road victory against No. 3 Fox Chapel (6-2-1, 4-1). The two teams are now tied for first place.

• Michael Miller scored both goals to lead Winchester Thurston (4-2-1, 4-0-1) to a 2-1 upset of 1A No. 2 Springdale (7-1, 4-1) in a Section 4 match played at Winchester Thurston. Patrick Wylly scored Springdale's only goal. Springdale had allowed only one goal in its six previous matches.

• Anthony Maiello scored a hat trick to lead 4A No. 2 Peters Township (8-1-1, 5-0) to a 4-0 road victory against Woodland Hills (4-5, 1-4) in Section 2. Brett Martin scored the Indians’ other goal, while Markus Bizyak and Aaron Peterson combined for the clean sheet.

• Aaron Callahan tapped in a rebound of a shot by Seth Therrien with two minutes remaining in the first overtime as 1A No. 3 Our Lady of Sacred Heart (7-0, 5-0) remained unbeaten with a 2-1 victory against Aquinas Academy (5-2, 3-2) in Section 3. Wyatt Walsh scored the Chargers’ first goal in the first half.

• Aidan Davis scored a goal and assisted on another to lead Elizabeth Forward (7-2-1, 6-0-1) posted a 3-1 road victory against Seton LaSalle (6-3, 5-2) in Class 2A Section 3. Carson Ruffing and Dominic Cavalier also scored for the Warriors.

• Tyler McClintock recorded a clean sheet as Upper St. Clair (5-3-1, 4-1) posted a 1-0 victory against Canon-McMillan (4-3-1, 1-3) in a Section 2 match held at Upper St. Clair. Shawn Khurana scored the Panthers’ only goal in the second half.

• Parker Pruitt scored off of a cross from Kooper Luffy midway through the second half for the game's only score as Burrell (4-4, 4-3) posted a 1-0 road victory against Freeport (4-4-2, 3-3-2) in Class 2A Section 1. Ben Doland recorded the shutout for the Buccaneers.

• Sean Scanlon, Nick Butler and Max Davis each scored a goal to lead Mars (7-1-2, 5-1-1) to a 3-0 shutout of Shaler (2-6-1, 2-4-1) in a Class 3A Section 1 game played at Shaler.

• Brayden Miller and Jake Shoemaker each recorded a hat trick as 3A No. 3 Thomas Jefferson (4-0-3, 3-0-3) blanked host McKeesport (0-8, 0-6) in Section 2. Evan Olson added two goals for the Jaguars.

Girls matches

• In the only girls match that featured two ranked teams, 3A No. 1 Fox Chapel (7-0-1) traveled to 4A No. 4 Seneca Valley (5-2-1) for a non-section showdown and the game ended in a 2-2 tie as neither team scored in the two overtime periods.

• Grace Bannon scored on an assist from Irelynn Hobbs with nine minutes remaining to lead Montour (6-2-1) to a 1-0 upset of 3A No. 4 Plum (6-1) in a non-section match played at Montour.

• Olivia Hoffman scored twice as Hampton (7-2-1), ranked No. 5 in Class 3A, tied 2-2 with Norwin (4-6-1) in a non-section match played at Hampton. Kate Lewis and Sara Kenst had assists for the Talbots.

• Bentworth (7-1), ranked No. 3 in Class 1A, rebounded from its first loss with a 4-0 win against visiting Ringgold (2-5-1) in a non-section match. Megan Keturakis scored twice for the Bearcats, while Bella Moyer and Emma Lusk each scored once.
