Expect to see even more filming in just a few weeks as a Western Pennsylvania-set Apple TV+ series begins shooting in the region later this month.
Filming for the new thriller, based on the series of “Killer Instinct” novels by Lars Kepler and starring Liev Schreiber, will take place in and around Pittsburgh between July 21 and Dec. 19, per a casting call from the Lawrenceville-based Mosser Casting.
The series, produced by A+E Studios with Range Studios, follows Jonah Lynn (Schreiber), a homicide detective who moves from Philadelphia to a small Western Pennsylvania town. Any sense of a quiet life is upended by a serial killer, Jurek Walter (Stephen Graham), who terrorizes the town, and Jonah’s adopted daughter — FBI agent Saga Bauer (Zazie Beetz) — gets pulled into the search for one of Jurek’s victims. Bill Camp plays police chief Ellison, while Rory Culkin, Deadline reported June 30, is Karl, who works at a high-security psychiatric institute.
The production is seeking background actors to play an “array of characters,” per the Mosser Casting announcement. Specific filming locations have yet to be named, although the release noted that “most of the locations are outside Pittsburgh.”
Mosser Casting named the series “Parallax” in its casting call, but that title is incorrect, according to an Apple TV+ spokesperson. Currently, the series remains untitled.
Emmy winner Tim Van Patten (“Boardwalk Empire”) is set to direct the first two episodes of the show, while BAFTA award winner Rowan Joffe (“Tin Star”) and John Hlavin (“The Man Who Fell to Earth”) executive produce.
